Palau Mercader was built as a "leisure tower" between 1864 and 1866 by the L'Hospitalet builder Jaume Bou i Madurell based on the plans by master builder Josep Domínguez Valls.

It is structured around a central courtyard that provides light to the three floors. The exterior resembles a medieval castle, following the historicist fashion of the time inspired by the past. The ground floor housed the kitchen, the carriage house, the stables and the wine cellar. The first floor, or Noble Floor, was intended for the owners and is the one that has been preserved most intact.

In 1905, after the death of Joaquim de Mercader, his heir, Arnaldo de Mercader y Zufía and his wife Paulina Pozzali Crotti, settled in Cornellà.

On the ground floor, you can see the fire stucco wall decoration, which imitates marble. The gallery walls show the Art Nouveau tempera decoration from the 1900 renovation.
